The New Jersey Pastel Painters Society will hold its 2008 Members' Show from March 31 to May 16 in D&R Greenway Land Trust's Marie L. Matthews Gallery.  “Flora and Fauna in Pastel: Focus on New Jersey ” presents the works of twenty-five artists, ranging from still lifes through landscape, many created en plein air. The exhibition can be enjoyed during business days,
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at D&R Greenway Land Trust, Johnson Educaiton Center, One Preservation Place, Princeton 08540.

All art is for sale, with 35% of the proceeds going to support D&R Greenway's land preservation and stewardship mission.
The exhibition theme, “Flora and Fauna in Pastel: Focus on New Jersey”, is designed to alert the public to D&R Greenway's intensifying focus on stewardship on the lands they preserve.  Borrowing the realtors' maxim, in preservation, “Habitat, Habitat, Habitat!” takes center stage.  Tending that habitat expands survival chances for a broad range of plants and animals, vital in their own right, providing essential inspiration for artists.

D&R Greenway Executive Director, Linda J. Mead reminds us that, “Preservation is only the first step.  It is up to us to manage and steward the land, enhancing the chances of survival for local wildlife and the return of native species.”  As of late February, 190 properties have been preserved, totaling 10,417.7 acres, worth $246,003,012.00.  Upon these lands, invasive plants are vigorously removed; native species restored or reintroduced, fostering healthy biodiversity.  Director of Stewardship, Jim Amon, and Director of Land Acquisition and Naturalist, Bill Rawlyk along with the stewardship team, continually perform hands-on work on these properties, involving trail building and maintenance to ensure public access where appropriate.  D&R Greenway Land Stewards join an energetic array of knowledgeable volunteers and summer interns in these essential endeavors.
