Johnson Education Center Programs and 2008 Rate Schedule

Front entrance of Johnson Education CenterThe only resource of its kind in the state and one of only two in the country, the Johnson Education Center offers the tools, techniques and expertise our public and private partners need to help them preserve as much land as possible as quickly as possible. Through programs and activities at the Johnson Education Center, D&R Greenway Land Trust promotes land preservation and conservation as fundamental priorities for all who live and work in our region. The Johnson Education Center now houses a research library, GIS and mapping capabilities and other information necessary to support the protection and effective management of land. It serves as D&R Greenway's home. Here our professional staff and other experts are providing hands-on education through workshops and other technical assistance.

An important component of the educational mission of the Johnson Education Center is the development of a regional vision for land preservation. Frequently, in order to best serve the conservation needs of the land, it is important to structure preservation projects that cross municipal and county borders (after all, the environment recognizes natural, not politically designated, boundaries). The Johnson Education Center provides a focal point for land preservation and a place where municipalities and counties come together to devise a holistic approach to land preservation that will benefit all their citizens.

The Johnson Education Center building is a textbook example of adaptive reuse, constructed by renovating a circa 1900 barn, one of the original structures of Princeton's historic 274 acre Edgerstoune Estate. A generous gift from the Johnson family named the Johnson Education Center and the barn's former hayloft the RWJ Auditorium. Throughout the building, glass etched plaques feature the names of other donors and their families who have generously contributed to D&R Greenway's new center.

Since opening in late March 2006, the Johnson Education Center has already hosted many meetings, workshops, along with several art exhibits. Please consult the current rate schedule below and call (609) 924-4646, ext. 123 for further information and reservations.
